PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal crash out of Malaysia Open 2017

India’s shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal suffered a huge blow in the Malaysia Open Superseries Premier as both players lose their respective first round matches on Wednesday.

Saina Nehwal was up against the fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi in the first round of the Malaysia Open. The Indian fans were hoping that she would continue her brilliant form after finishing as the runner-up in the India Open Superseries. But things did not shape out well for the India’s superstar as she was beaten in a tough fought game by 19-21, 21-13, 21-15.

The fist set was very competitive. Both the players were trying to establish the lead on each other. The Indian has broken away from the tie and has taken four consecutive points to lead 11-7 at the interval. It was the looking like the Indian ace badminton player will take the match easily. But her opponent came back in the second half of the first set and fought hard.

Yamaguchi gets one vital point in the end but the Indian pockets a vital point to have two game points in hand at 20-18. Saina managed to see out the first set and won it by 21-19.

The world current No 2 Yamaguchi came back in the match strongly. Saina played some quick, fiery points to go up to 4-2 in the second set. At half-time, Saina has the good lead of 11-8. It was looking like that she would win the match confidently. But the no 4 seed had other ideas. She started playing the long rallies. Saina was not able to maintain her fitness and the game in the second set. As a result of that Yamaguchi took the second set by 21-13.

In the third set also Yamaguchi did not give any chance to Saina to come back in the match. The momentum was with Yamaguchi and she did not allow Saina to get close to her. She took the third game by 21-15 and won the match. The match lasted a total of  56 minutes.

In the other match, PV Sindhu was in the tough group and she knew that the match would be very difficult for her. But she kept fighting and took the first set. But in the second and third set, she was not able to match the pace of her opponent.

The world current No 5 PV Sindhu was up against World No. 13 Chen Yufei of China. In the first set, PV Sindhu maintained the lead till the half point in the first set. At half-time, Sindhu leads 11-10. But PV Sindhu showed the great strength and did not give a single chance to her opponent. She took the first set by 21-18.

But what happened in the next two sets stunned the Indian fans. After such an exciting performance in the first set the fans were hoping that she will close out the game. But she lost 21-19 in the second set. In the third set also she lost 21-17.

Saina obviously needs a lot of work mentally to get back to the top. The match clearly showed that she was not that fit to play the long rallies. Saina Nehwal has once again crashed out of the Malaysian Open in the first round. She needs to work hard to get back to full fitness.

PV Sindhu was in brilliant form couple of days back as she won the India Open Superseries. After the victory, everyone would have thought that she would perform well in the Singapore Open. But much to the surprise of fans, she has been knocked out of the tournament in the very first round of the tournament. With her being knocked out of the tournament, India’s challenge in the women’s badminton in Malaysia Open ended.
