Kell Brook will defend his IBF welterweight title against Errol Spence Jr in a highly anticipated match at a UK venue, confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn. Brook had hoped to face Amir Khan in a domestic showdown in his next fight but has had to settle for Spence after talks broke down. The fight will take place on May 20, in Sheffield, UK.
Hearn confirmed this news via Twitter and said terms have been agreed between the boxers and it is set to take place in the UK. He also described it as the “best fight in the division”.
Errol Spence who is the mandatory challenger for the IBF welterweight champion has a perfect record of 21 wins from 21 fights. Brook won the title against Shawn Porter in August 2014 but after that, he has struggled.
This will be Kell Brook’s first fight since he suffered defeat against middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin which stopped his unbeaten record in September 2016.
The fight will broadcast live in the UK via SkySports Box Office PPV service. The tickets and other information related to the fight will be announced at the official press conference.
