Australia and South Africa announces squad for Champions Trophy 2017

The current world champions Australia and South Africa has announced their 15 man squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The champions trophy is scheduled to start from 1st June in England. Austrailia has won the prestigious tournament once. They lifted the trophy in 2009 in South Africa under the leadership of Ricky Ponting by beating Wst Indies in the finals.

Australia would love to repeat the same performance this year also. But, this time the side will be led by Steve Smith. Smith has already proven that he is a great batsman and a wonderful leader in all forms of the game. He has led Australia to many victories in the recent time both with his bat and the role of captaincy.

The team looks heavy in the pace department. According to one of the selector, they have decided the squad on the basis of the condition. As the condition in England favours the fast bowlers, they have included quality pace bowlers in their lineup. The team also has spin options in the form of Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa. They will have an important role to play in the middle overs of the game.

The surprise element is the inclusion of James Pattinson and John Hastings. While Strack will make his comeback from injury after missing the test series against India and IPL. He will surely have to play the major role if Australia is ging to win this tournament.

In the batting department, the side will be led by their captain Steve Smith. Smith has already proven that he is one of the best batsmen in the world at the current moment and can perform well in any condition. David Warner will be the key batsman in the lineup and he will have the responsibility to give the quick start to the side.

He will have Aron Finch as the partner in the opening order. The team looks strong in the batting department and has some good quality all-rounders in the lineup in the form of Marcus Stoinis, Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn.

Australia will start their campaign in champions trophy against their neighbours New Zeland. They will face black caps at Edgbaston on the 2nd of June. But, before that they will play the two practice games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan on the 27th and the 29th of May.
