India showed great performance in the 1st One-Day International (ODI) at Dharamsala and defeated New Zealand by six wickets to go 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. Indian team chased the target of 191 in 34th over easily for the loss of four wickets and Virat Kohli scored the 37th half-century in the match and remained unbeaten 85 to clinch the victory over Kiwis. India won the toss and put New Zealand to bat first in day/night ODI match at Dharamsala. The Indian pace duo Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya started the bowling in the powerplay. All-rounder Pandya who was playing his first match took the first wicket of Blackcaps in form of opener Martin Guptill. After that Kiwis captain, Kane Williamson also got out on the bowling of Umesh Yadav and catch took by Amit Mishra at third man.
Umesh dismissed dangerous Ross Taylor on a duck and in seven overs, New Zealand were on 33 for the loss of 3 wickets. Pandya continued to take wickets as he picked Corey Anderson who caught at mid-off while Luke Ronchi made 0 and got out when he tried to play chipped one towards mid-on off. The Indian pacers shared total five wickets as New Zealand were on 48 for the loss of 5 wickets.
The wickets were falling of New Zealand but Latham was doing well from one end but he was looking for a partnership. Finally, a small partnership between Latham and Doug Bracewell of 41 runs for the eighth wicket helped New Zealand to cross 100 runs mark. However, Amit Mishra ends this partnership by taking the wicket of Bracewell who was playing at 15.
The partnership between Tim Southee and Latham added precious 71 runs for the ninth wicket to make Kiwis reach above 190. Southee played some good shots to reach his half-century and was looking dangerous but Mishra dismissed Southee on 55. The New Zealand innings end with last wickets took by Mishra on 190. The left-hander opener, Latham remained unbeaten 79.
The Indian opening pair Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane started the inning with some big hits and scored 49 in 10th over. But first Rohit dismissed on 14 and couple of overs after Rahane got out. The man in form batsman, Virat Kohli took the responsibility and smashed 85 to take the win against New Zealand. Manish Pandey scored 17 while captain Dhoni scored 21 and Jadhav was unbeaten.
