India’s Champions Trophy squad to be announced on 8 May

Indian cricket board’s Acting President CK Khanna has confirmed that India is going to participate in this year ICC Champions trophy that would be held in England. The champions trophy is scheduled to start from 1st of June. This confirmation brings rest to all the speculation about India taking part in this year’s champions trophy. It is also the most likely that the squad will be announced on 8th of May.

India will start the tournament as a favorite as being the defending champion. They won the champions trophy in 2013, beating England in the final. This year also they would love to win the trophy.

This news comes after a lot of debate about BCCI deciding to skip this year’s champions trophy. There were many debates held between ICC and BCCI regarding the issue of scrapping of “Big three plan”. BCCI was firm at its decision for the support for the old revenue system. This created a lot of debate between BCCI and ICC. The all important vote regarding this change also did not go in the favor of BCCI.

BCCI lost the vote by a big margin which indicated that all the other board is happy with the new revenue system. This made BCCI very angry and some of the top officials in the BCCI also hinted that they might decide to pull out from the tournament if ICC does not accept their demand. But, finally, it’s all settled after the statement from Indian cricket board’s Acting President. The Committee of Administrations (CoA) also ordered the BCCI to pick the squad as soon as possible as the deadline for the selection was 25th May.

All the other teams have announced their squad for the champions trophy. India will be the last team to announce their squad. The team will be led by Virat Kohli. But, there would be the huge debate about the rest of the players. The players like Dhoni, Rahane, Jadeja, Ashwin, Rohit Sharma will definitely find their spot in the squad. But, the main would the selection of the fast bowlers.

As England condition will favor the fast and swing bowlers, India would need to pick the strong pace department if they want to win this tournament. The ongoing IPL will also affect the selection.
