Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) beat Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) by six wickets in their first match of the IPL 2017. They outperformed the Pune in all the department. The star of the match was the KXIP captain Glen Maxwell who was playing as skipper of the side for the first time. He played a wonderful inning to lead his side to victory in the later stage of the game.
The match started with the KXIP captain Glen Maxwell winning the toss and deciding to chase the target. His decision proved to be correct as Mayank Aggarwal was removed without scoring by Sandeep Sharma. They could not have asked for the better start in the match. Once they got the first wicket they never looked back and kept picking up wickets at regular interval.
RPS was in deep trouble as they only managed to score 63 runs in the first 10 overs and lost 4 wickets in making that. But, their money man Ben Stokes came to rescue as he scored a brilliant half century to give some respectable total to the side. The inning was finished by Dan Christian as he smashed some big blows at the end of the inning. RPS finished their dining for 163.
KXIP started their inning with some good shot by their opening batsman Manan Vohra. But soon he was dismissed and it was looking like that RPS will make this match tighter. Soon the magic man Imran Tahir removed Indian Test WicketKeeper Saha with a beautiful delivery. The match got tighter until the big show arrived at the party.
KXIP captain Glen Maxwell was looking like that he meant business as he tried to craft his inning. He was in no mood to start his captaincy career with a loss. So he took some ball to get settled. But we he cut loose he smoked the ball to all the parts of the ground. He alongside David Miller took the attack to the RPS bowlers and chased down the total in the penultimate over of the game. RPS needs to work on the bowling attack and find the right combination. On the other hand, it was the brilliant performance by the Punjab side to kick off their campaign in style.
