Royal Challengers have clinched a victory in a very close game aginst Delhi Daredevils on Saturday. The match was very intense and went right down to the wire. The fans were excited as there was no clear winner until the last over of the game. Both the teams were missing their key players due to injury. RCB were missing Virat Kohli, de Villers, KL Rahul whereas Delhi side were missing Duminy, de Kock and Mathews.
The superstar of the match was RCB batsman Kedar Jadhav. He was the only player that managed to play his shots freely for RCB. All the batsman other than him struggled to score on the pitch that was on the slightly slower side. Here are the highlights and scorecard, RCB Vs DD from Match 5 of the IPL 2017.
RCB captain Shane Watson decided to bat first after winning the toss which surprised all the fans. This decision proved to be wrong as Delhi bowlers picked the wickets quickly within the powerplay. RCB batsman just scored 60 odd runs in the first 10 overs of the game.
All the bowlers impressed in the first half of the RCB inning. The pick of the bowler was Nadeem who bowled the most economical spell of his IPL career which included 12 dot balls. But all things changed when Kedar Jadhav came to the crease.
He was in the positive state of mind right from the start and counter-attacked the bowlers from Delhi side. He smashed the ball to all the parts of the ground. It was sheer display fo power by Kedar. He reached his half-century in very quick time. But he got out on 69. When he was batting it looked like RCB is going to put 180+ total on the board but all changed when Kedar got out.
RCB only managed to score 157 in their full quota of 20 overs. At the inning breaks, it looked like Delhi is going to win the match very easily.
But exactly opposite happened. RCB bowlers bowled a tight line which did not allow the Delhi batsman to score freely. This pressure resulted in some poor shot selection by inexperienced Delhi side. They threw their wickets as the team was looking in deep trouble. But credit must go to Rishav Pant who played a great inning for Delhi. He brought Delhi back in the game with his attacking play. He remained at one side but wickets kept falling from the other side.
The hopes of Delhi side got rattled when Pant got out in the last over. He might not have led his side to victory but he won millions of heart by that inning.
RCB won the match but they have to realize one fact that they did not deserve to win the match. Delhi batsman gave the match to RCB. There are many areas that RCB need to work on.
They still have not been able to find the right combination. On the other hand, Delhi needs to bat well if they want to go the distance in the championship this time.
