Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their second victory of the IPL 2017 against Gujarat Lions by 9 wickets. It was the brilliant performance by the young leg-spinner from Afganistan who stunned the Gujarat batsman. He picked three crucial wickets that saw his side win the match. Sunrisers again proved that why they are the defending champions as they dominated every department of the game.
On the other hand, it was horrible batting performance by Gujarat Lions player as they got out very cheaply. This is their second loss in the tournament and they would not have thought such a bad start of the season.
The match started with Sunrisers winning the toss and inviting Gujarat to bat first. The match started horribly for Gujarat Lions as they did not manage to put up a good opening wicket stand. Jason Roy did look in brilliant form but he also got out after making 30 odd runs. It was the day for the Afganistan’s sensational bowler Rashid Khan as he dismissed McCullum, Suresh Raina, Aron Finch in quick succession to put a huge pressure on the batting lineup of Gujarat.
The best thing about Rashid Khan bowling was that all the wickets were leg before as no batsman was able to pick his googly. In the later stage of the game, Kartik and Smith did hit some big blows but were again dismissed as soon as they were looking dangerous. Gujarat finished their inning at 135-7. This total was very low as the pitch was very good to bat on.
As the match was decided by the first inning only unless Gujarat pulled out something extraordinary from their bag. But this did not happen as Sunrisers won the match very easily. Gujarat only managed to pick a single wicket in the match. Cruisers started their inning on the positive note especially their captain David Warner who missed out in the previous inning.
David played aggressively from the first ball as he looked to take the attack to the bowlers. He got equal support from his Australian teammate Moises Henriques. Moises also batted brilliantly to bring his second half century if the season. But the star performer was the captain David warner who scored a brilliant 76 of just 45 balls that saw Sunrisers chase down the total in just 15.3 overs.
The man of the match was the leg-spinner from Afganistan as he picked three crucial wickets to put the pressure on the Gujarat batting lineup. He also became the owner on the Purple cap as he became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Here are the scorecard, SRH Vs GL from Match 6 of the IPL 2017.
