Sunrisers Hyderabad just edged (KXIP) Kings XI Punjab by 5 runs in a thriller played between these two sides at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sunrisers pulled the match on their side in the 19th over where they dismissed Manan Vohra. This is the third win for Hyderabad side in the five games that they have played. They now move to the third position in the points table. This was a much-needed win for the defending champions that lost their way after winning initial two games.
They lost two back to back matches that were unlike Hyderabad side but they did not make the same mistakes in this match. On the other hand, this is the third loss for KXIP side. They are now at the fifth position in the points table with 4 points in the 5 games that they have played so far this season. The match started well for Punjab side as they won the toss and decided to bowl first. The pitch was difficult to score as the ball was not coming on the bat which made the scoring difficult for Sunrisers batsman. Both of their opening batsman Dhawan and Warner struggled to get going in the powerplay. There was a time hen warner was on 4 runs from 14 balls. But, he did not threw his wicket in anger. He took his time and get settled and then started to hit some big blows.
KXIP bowler bowled brilliantly and took three quick wickets in the first 10 overs. But all changed when Naman Ojha came to bat. He was in the aggressive mood right from the started and decided to go after the Punjab bowlers. This also boosted Warner’s confidence on the other side as he also started striking the ball well. Naman Ojha made 34 off just 20 balls. But the star batsman for Sunrisers was David Warner who made 70 off 54 balls. It was brilliant innings by captain Warner that made Hyderabad post a total of 159/6 on the board.
The chase started horribly for Punjab side as Amla was dismissed on the very first ball by Indian swing expert Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvnaeshwar also dismissed dangerous Maxwell to give a slight chance to Sunrises in the match. In the middle stage, the Afghani duo of Nabi and Rashid Khan did the magic. Rashid Khan again picked two wickets in the match whereas Nabi got rid of Morgan.
Despite, the kept wickets falling from one end, Manan Vohra kept going from the other end. He looked determined to play a big inning and take Punjab home only to be stopped by the purple cap holder Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Bhuvi dismissed Vohra in the 19th over to bring Sunrisers back in the game. Vohra made 95 off jus 50 balls. He was the only batsman that looked well settled on the tough pitch. Punjab was only able to make 154 runs. They were dismissed in just 19.4 overs.
The star of the match was Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who picked 5 wickets in the match. He is also the holder of the purple cap from last year and this year also he is no mood to let that cap go anywhere.
