Kings XI Punjab roped one of the India’s leading fast bowler Ishant Sharma as a replacement for Murali Vijay before the start of IPL 10. Ishant was left unsold at Indian Premier League Season 10 auction after Pune released him. He was surprised by the fact that no team went for him in the auction as he put up his base price a whopping Rs 2 crores.
The main reason for not going for Ishant is the inconsistency in his bowling in the shorter format of the game. He was the regular part of the International side in the limited over format but in the recent time, other bowlers have outperformed him. He lost his place in the national squad and eventually in the IPL side also.
But much to his surprise he got the offer from the KXIP side who included him in the side in place of injured Murli Vijay who has been sidelined for the entire season. Ishant will now play under the captaincy of Glen Maxwell. The pitch in the Punjab will also suit his style of bowling.
Last year for Rising Pune Supergiants, Ishant played an only four matches, in which he managed to pick up only 3 wickets at a drastic economy rate of 9.86. In his overall IPL career, he has picked up 59 wickets in 70 matches that he has played over the nine season at an average of 34 .77 and an economy rate of 8.05. The average economy rate is too high for the bowler like him.
In his overall Twenty20 career, Ishant has played 107 matches and taken 88 wickets at an economy rate of 7.75. His inconsistency could be seen from the fact that he will play for the fifth franchise in the IPL history. He has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and RPS earlier.
