IPL 2017, KKR vs KXIP Highlights: Kolkata beat Punjab by 8 Wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders stopped the winning run of Kings XI Punjab as they beat them by 8 wickets on Thursday. KKR dominated the match right from the start. This is the second win for Kolkata side in the three matches that they have played in the IPL 2017 so far. On the other hand, KXIP will be disappointed with their performance in this game as they had the chance to win three games in the row but they failed to do so. The match started with Kolkata winning the toss and inviting the visitors to bat first at Eden Gardens. But, KXIP batsman started the match positively as both of their openers Vohra and Amla tried to dominate the bowling attack and played some attractive shot in the starting overs. They took the full advantage of the power play and gave the team a good start in the match.

But, as soon as Vohra was dismissed the whole inning feel apart. Kolkata team picked the wicket at the regular interval which did not allow the visitors to make any kind of momentum in the match. The bowlers were impressive for Kolkata side. The pick of the bowler was Sunil Narine who bowled very tight line that did not allow the Punjab batsman to score freely.

The credit must also go to Umesh Yadav who picked 4 crucial wickets in the match despite playing in his first match in this season. The whole Punjab team was bowled out for 170 runs on a pitch that was very good for batting. There was few batsman that got the start in Punjab side but failed to convert their start into a big score.

Kolkata began chase very aggressively. They replaced the opening batsman Chris Lynn with Sunil Narine. Everyone in the stadium was surprised to see Narine coming out to open alongside the captain Gautam Gambhir. But, he proved this decision right after he smashed the bowlers to all part of the ground. He took on every bowler that made the mockery of the KXIP total. he was dismissed for 37 runs.

But on the other end, Gautam Gambhir kept playing his shots and scored his 33rd half-century in Indian Premier League (IPL) to guide Kolkata Knight Rides win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Kolkata chased the total in just 16.3 overs with losing just 2 wickets. It was the brilliant performance by KKR batsman despite losing Chris Lynn in the last match due to injury.

The man of the match was Sunil Narine who bowled the excellent spell that did not allow the Punjab batsman to score freely and also played a crucial knock while opening the innings. KKR team will be happy with their performance but KXIP need to work on their bowling attack as they were smashed to all parts of the ground.
