IPL 2017: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma talks about strategy

Mumbai Indian is one the most successful side in the IPL history having won the prestigious tournament twice. They will start the campaign with the same intensity and motivation to lift the trophy for the third time. The side will be led by Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who has been the part of IPL winning side thrice as a player. He would like to add another one to his name but will face the tough challenge this season.

Before the start of the season, Rohit Sharma shared his views on this season and the challenges that he might have to face in winning this edition. He told that the most important thing is the consistency in any team if they are going to win the IPL.

Mumbai Indians skipper told that the team needs to perform consistently from the start if they want to get the third title. He also told that IPL is a fast paced tournament so you can not afford to make mistakes.

Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata knight Riders are the team that has won this tournament twice each. This year Mumbai Indian would like to be the first team to get their hand on the trophy for the record three times.

Rohit said,” Last year was disappointing because we weren’t consistent in what we were doing. We played one brilliant game, and then we were off for a little. If you want to win the tournament, you can’t be inconsistent. It’s a very fast-paced tournament, suddenly you realise you’re already into the first half. You play every second or third day, so you have to be at it all the time, not to let it go away”.

He also said, “We have to break it into parts, we want to start really well. So we’re actually focussing only on the first few games. When we go onto the field for that first game, we’re not short of any information. We all are looking forward to it, but we have to break it into parts”.

This IPL season will be like the comeback series for the captain as he has been on the sideline for a long time due to injury. He will have to perform brilliantly and impress the selectors and this becomes even more important as Champions trophy is around the corner.

He was delighted to work with Mahela Jayewardhane, the new head coach of Mumbai Indians. He told that his experience will play the crucial role in the tournament. He said that Jayewardhane has been a great player for the Sri Lanka team and a great ambassador of cricket for a long time and could guide the team to their third title.

Now we will have to wait for the start of the tournament to see how Rohit and team perform in this season of the IPL bu one thing is for sure that they will get a tough competition this season and will have to perform brilliantly if they want to get the title for the third time.
