IPL 2017: Shane Watson to lead RCB in Virat Kohli’s absence

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson announced as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in place of Virat Kohli, who was ruled out for a couple of weeks as he was nursing his shoulder injury. Earlier it was decided that AB de Villiers would captain the team but he is also in doubt for the opening game of the IPL 2017. Hence, Shane Watson will lead the team till Kohli is not fit to play the tournament.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s regular captain Kohli got injured during the third Test between India and Australia at Ranchi in March and missed the fourth match of the series as well.

Recently, AB de Villiers was also ruled out of the final of the Momentum One Day Cup 2017 a domestic 50-overs tournament due to back pain. The RCB team management then decided to put team’s responsibility on Watson’s shoulders. He had retired from all forms of cricket in 2016 and has previously captained Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Meanwhile, RCB suffered another huge blow as in-form KL Rahul was ruled out of the IPL 10 due to a shoulder injury.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match of Indian Premier League season 10.  RCB will second match against Delhi Daredevils (DD) on April 8 after that they will face Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on April 10.
