Kings XI Punjab recorded their second win in a row of the season as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 wickets on Monday. The match saw total domination by the KXIP players. This was the second loss for the RCB side in their third game of the season. This loss certainly puts them under lots of pressure as they have not performed well in the third match consecutively.
With this victory, KXIP moves to the second position in the points table. They have finished the game in just 14.3 overs which will saw their net rate increasing which will help them when the things will get tighter.
The match started with RCB captain Shane Watson winning the toss and much to everybody’s surprise he chooses to bat first. He must have got some confidence from the last match in which they won batting first. The fans became happy after seeing the RCB line-up as their star batsman AB de Villers was back after being sidelined for the initial games due to injury.
But, this decision proved to be wrong as RCB lost the first wicket in the very first over as their captain Watson was bowled by Axar Patel. Then came the superman from South Africa. He started the inning very carefully. But there was no batsman that gave him the support as RCB kept losing the wickets at regular interval. It was during the final four overs that AB decided to tee off and when he decided he almost made the mockery of Punjab’s bowling lineup which was looking unplayable till now.
AB showed the world that why he is the best player in the game of cricket. Despite he was coming back from injury he smashed the ball to all the parts of the ground including two which went out of the ground. He finished his inning with 89 runs in just 46 balls with 9 sixes and just 3 boundaries. But despite all that RCB managed to score 148 runs.
When Punjab’s batsman came out to chase the total it looked like they were batting on the completely different pitch. Both the opener looked comfortable and scored freely. Amla went on to complete his half-century. The match was finished by their captain Glen Maxwell who came in the end and smashed few lusty blows. He finished the chase with a brilliant six over long off. He made 43 runs off just 23 balls including 4 sixes and 3 boundaries.
The match saw the total domination by Punjab. The owners of KXIP will be happy after seeing the performance of the team under the new leader Glen Maxwell. Glen has also relished this opportunity as he has been in brilliant form in both the matches.
On the other hand, RCB batsman needs to find a way to score or at least support Ab de Villiers during batting.
