IPL 2017: RPS sign Tahir for injured Mitchell Marsh

Rising Pune Supergiants have roped the world No. 1 T20 and one day bowler, Imran Tahir. He would replace the injured Mitchell Marsh in the team. This could be great news for all the fans of RPS as Tahir would add another dimension to the bowling attack.

Imran Tahir remained unsold in the IPL auction that took place in the late February this year. This was almost a surprise for everyone as he is currently the no1 bowler in the T20 format. The 37-year-old leg-spinner from South Africa has taken 54 wickets from 31 T20 matches.

Tahir was also part of the Delhi Daredevils team last season. He was one of the few players that performed well for the Delhi side last year. He was the highest wicket-taker from them. In 20 IPL matches that he has played, he has managed to pick up 29 wickets with a great bowling average of 21.48.

The injury of Mitchell Marsh was a huge blow for the RPS team as he was the regular member of the side. But, they have picked up Ben Stokes in the auction last month who could act as the perfect replacement for the Mitchell Marsh in the side. Ben has been in sublime for both with the bat and bowl. But, they lacked a good spin bowler in the lineup. Ashwin has nor been in great for in the recent test series against Aussies.

The addition of Imran Tahir would make the bowling attack more threating. Tahir would bring a ton of experience with him in bowling in the limited over format. He would also act as the perfect partner for Ashwin. The spin duo could turn the tides for the RPS team who failed to impress last year.

The batting department would again depend a lot on the likes of Steve Smith, Dhoni, Ben stokes and the bowling attack would be led by the spin duo of Ashwin and Tahir.

The leg spinner could play a vital role in the success of the team as he would get a lot of help from the pitch in Pune. The history also suggests that it is difficult to hit the leg spinners out of the park. The legspinners have managed to perform well in the previous IPL edition with the likes of Amit Mishra and Chahal.

Now we have to wait for the IPL to see the magic of Tahir. But one thing is for sure that his inclusion in the side could be a very last thing that the team needed.
