The match started with Mumbai Indians winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. The match started with the good partnership for RCB. They started the inning carefully and looked to give them a good launching pad. They did not lose any wicket in the powerplay but also not score many runs. Harbhajan Singh bowled very well as he restricted the batsman from scoring free runs.
The inning was going well until Kohli and Gayle were there on the pitch but everything changed when these two got out. The whole inning falls apart after Kohli was dismissed. Before getting out, Kohli did score his half-century which indicated that he is now fully fit and ready to take on the bowlers. AB de Villers also got out very cheaply.
The pitch was difficult to score as the ball was stopping and not coming on the bats so nicely. RCB only managed to score 142/5 in their 20 overs. After the inning was finished, everyone thought that Mumbai will win this match very easily.
When Mumbai came out to bat, they would not have thought that they would start the inning so badly. It was the first match for Samuel Badree for RCB and he really made his mark in the match. He dismissed Parthiv Patel, McClenaghan and captain Rohit Sharma in three balls to get his first hat-trick of the IPL. This was also the first hat-trick of this season. Mumbai was 4 wickets down within first 10 runs. It was like game over for Mumbai at that time and RCB would have thought that they would win the match from here.
But, Pollard had other ideas. He took his time and formed a good partnership with Pandey. He batted brilliantly and finished bat bowls. He was the reason Mumbai was able to chase down the total. The credit also goes to Pandya who stood there and supported Pollard. Mumbai chased the total in 18.5 overs.
The man of the match was Pollard who made 70 of just 47 balls. Mumbai would be very disappointed with their batting effort as they were in the horrible position in the beginning of the chase. But, they would be happy with their bowling performance.
This was the third win for Mumbai side in the fourth game and it looks like they have got the form that they were searching. On the other hand, Bangalore needs to find some solution as they have lost their third game of the season.
