Delhi Daredevils made the mockery of Rising Pune Supergiant by beating them by 97 runs. This was a huge defeat that has put many questions on the Pune team that they need to find the answer of before their next match. Delhi made a huge total of 205/4 and in reply, Rising Supergiant could only make 108/10. The thing that would hurt Pune most is that they weren’t able to play their full quota of overs.
The match started with Rising Pune Supergiant winning the toss and deciding to field first. The massive change in the Pune side was the exclusion of their captain Steve Smith. This raised many questions like is he injured or not well. But whatever was the reason him not playing was a huge blow for the side. He was replaced by South African batsman Faf du Plessis. The side was led by Indian vice-captain Rahane.
Delhi got the opportunity to bat first on the pitch that was looking great for batting. This meant that Delhi has to put a huge total so that they could pressure on Pune side. This motive was seen by the approach of Delhi batsman as they looked to play their shots from the word go. Delhi lost their first wicket very cheaply but then came star of the match Sanju Samson.
Samson was very determined right from the word go and looked to dominate the bowling attack. He played his shot and always kept the pressure on the Pune bowlers. This made the Pune bowlers loose their natural line and length which helped Delhi batsman more. Sanju went on to complete his maiden century of the IPL.
He became the first batsman to score the century in this years IPL. The inning needed a good finish which was provided by Chis Morris. He absolutely dismantled the Pune bowling attack in the later overs. He made 38 off just 9 balls to give a massive total of 206 to chase for Pune.
The scoreboard pressure played on the Pune batsman as they lost their way from the beginning. There was no batsman that looked to play the big inning. All the batsman were in a hurry and threw their wickets away quickly. Pune lost half of their side for just 50 odd runs. But Delhi did not stop there as they were determined to get pure all out. Delhi restricted Pune for 108 in just 16.1 overs.
The man of the match was young Sanju Samson who made a brilliant century in the game. This was the first win for Delhi side as they lost their opening match against RCB.
