Virat Kohli receives Padma Shri award at Rashtrapati Bhawan

Virat Kohli was honoured by Padam Shri award by honourable president Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. There were many other players, hockey captain PR Sreejesh and Rio Olympic silver medallist Sakshi Malik and gymnast Dipa Karmakar who were also honoured by Padam Shri in this ceremony.

Virat Kohli has been in excellent for through the past two years. He is the only player in India that has performed well in both homes and away from countries in all the three formats of the game. He has not only performed well as players but has also excelled as the captain.

There were lots of people who were that Kohli was ready for captaincy when Dhoni decided to give up his role as captain. But he proved all the critics wrong as he leads the team from the front.

In test matches, India has beaten West Indies and Sri Lanka in their home. They have also beaten New Zeland, England, Bangladesh, Australia. He leads the team to an unbeaten strike of 19 consecutive test matches without suffering any defeat. He has been in superb form in the longer format of the game. He became the first man to slam double hundreds in four successive series.

The best captain is the one who leads the team by example and he is one of that player. He has played my superb knocks to seal the match for India. In shorter format of the game, he has been the India’s go to the batsman. He has always responded and played well whenever his team has needed him to do so. There were many times that he has won the match single handily for India.

When this news was announced he was playing the t20 international against England and upon receiving the news Virat said,” It is a huge honour for me to win the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in this country. It’s not just related to sports but it’s an appreciation shown by the whole country. It gives me huge pleasure to receive this award.”

There are still many years of cricket left in him as he is still very young. There are many people that say that he is the best cricket to be born in the country after Sachin Tendulkar. He has also proven this statement right many times as he saved many matches for India. Let’s hope that he continues this brilliant form in future also.
