Southampton boss Claude Puel denies Manchester United talks for signing Jose Fonte and he will stay with Saints
Claude Puel, who replaced Ronald Koeman as manager in June following the Dutchman’s move to Everton, believes Fonte will be a key component for the Saints this season.
He said: “I do not think there is a possibility for Jose to leave us.
“I am sure that he can play all these games, he is very proficient.
“When I see him on the pitch he is interesting, very professional and he has a good attitude.
“(Fonte has) re-joined in training. I do not know if he will start the game (on Saturday) but we will see.
“The market window is difficult for the club and the players but it is very important for the team.
“Many clubs can be interested in players. That is normal.”
The 32-year-old Centre-Back has starred Portugal in the 2016 Euro Cup Victory.
Fonte signed for Southampton on 9 January 2010 for a fee believed to be around the region of £1.2 million, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.
Fonte an Asset for the Saints
After scoring seven league goals in 2009 and helping Southampton gain promotion to the second level, Fonte was named in the League One Team of the Year for the 2010–11 season.
He was also voted Southampton’s Player of the year, achieving 64% of the overall vote, with Adam Lallana coming second with 18% and Dan Harding finishing third (7%).
On 8 August 2014, Fonte penned a new three-year deal with Southampton running until 2017 and currently Captain’s the Southampton side

Southampton has offered their Captain/Defender a new contract in a Bid to fend off interest from Manchester United.
Telegraph says that the saints hand Fonte a £ 25,000 a week- pay hike by offering a new £ 70,000-a week deal, making him the highest earner for the Club
