2016 Kabaddi World Cup: Can Iran stun the Favorites India

The Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad is on its way beginning from the 7th of October 2016. However, In total two types of Kabaddi is being played in the World. Although First, is the International Kabaddi Officially registered under the International Kabaddi Federation. While the Indian style of Kabaddi is originated from the Host nation India as it is also known as the ” World Cup Kabaddi”. While the International Kabaddi Federation doesn’t consider this tournament at all because of its own set of original and ethnic rules.

The World Cup Kabaddi came into existence from the Year 2010. This competetion is played in Circle Style and had 5 sucessfull World Cup tournaments 2010,11,12,13 and 14 till now. India has won all the Six Kabaddi WorldCups after its inception. However,first time in the history of this competition it 12 teams participating for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup Ahmedabad.


However, the 2015 Kabaddi World Cup had been abandoned cancelled because of 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration controversy. Moreover, World Cup kabaddi returns for its 6th edition at the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup Ahmedabad. While the Mega Kabaddi World Cup to be played from 7th October – 22nd October, Iran is the only team that seem a tough one.

There are in total two Groups which Six international Kabaddi teams each for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. Whereas India pairs up with Bangladesh, South Korea, Australia, England and Argentina in Group A. While Iran to dominate the Group B among teams like Thailand, Japan, USA, Poland and Kenya.

Furthemore, it can be easily concluded that Iran is the only team who can threaten India in the Kabaddi WorldCup. The Reason is Participation of the Iranians in the Pro Kabaddi League and knowing the tactics of this game very well. Let us take a look some of Iran’s Key players.

Meraj Sheykh – The Captain of the Iranian Kabaddi Team is is the most experienced campaigner for Iran. Meraj surely had a lot of Indian exposure being played 40 matches and claimed over 160 points in the Pro-Kabaddi League. Meraj started his Pro Kabaddi career as an all-rounder with  the Telugu Titans and later moved with Dabang Delhi side previous season. He is really quick in gaining those raid points for the teams in crucial conditions. Also an important player when it comes to the Defense department with his blocks and ankle holds.

Fazel Atrachali –  Fazel Atrachali is like a wall in the Iranian team defense with the ankle and waist hold being his key moves. Fazel is also a two-time champion in the Pro Kabaddi League, in Season 2 with U Mumba and Season 4 with Patna Pirates, he has over 90 defense points to his name. Fazel Atrachali is the Man who can surely quiet the Indian Raiders for this World Cup,

Hadi Oshtorak – One of the best defender witnessed from the Pro Kabaddi 2016 Season. Hadi was a cricial member of the Patna Pirates in Season 4 of Pro Kabaddi League. A star defender, as well as previously held the honor of being the highest paid foreigner in the League. The 24-year old player has gathered 37 points in 21 outings and will be a key figure in the formidable Iranian team during the World Cup.
