The oldest of all Motorsports in the World Championships is Moto GP (Grand Prix). Its first annual competition having been held in 1949. The championship is currently divided into three classes: MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3. All three classes use four-stroke engines. In 2010, 250 cc two-strokes were replaced by the new Moto2 600 cc four-stroke class.

Valentino Rossi started his Motorcycle Racing career winning one title in moto3 and one in moto2. Rossi came close to winning the 2015 title after several years out of contention, leading the championship for most of the season, only to lose out in the final round to fellow Yamaha rider, Jorge Lorenzo.
