It was the mixed day for Indian badminton fans as their star player PV Sindhu was knocked out of the Singapore open. But, there was some good news for the fans also. The best Indian men’s Badminton player Sai Praneeth surprised the world no 7 to reach the semi-final of the competition. He beat World No. 11 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the quarterfinal to move to the next round. It was much to the surprise as he was coming back from injury and really stunned the world no. 7.
PV Sindhu was up against one of his arch rival Carolina Marin. PV Sindhu did beat Carolina in the Indian open Superseries final to win the title. Sindhu started the match with the same intensity as she did in the final on Indian open super series but this time Marin was up to the challenge. It seemed like she had the answers to all the shots of Indian superstar. Marin started the match with the bang as she dominated the match right from the start.
She did not give any single chance to Sindhu to make a comeback in the match. It seemed like she had done all the homework on the weakness of Sindhu. She won the first set by 21-11. The win almost broke the confidence of Sindhu and she made lots of unforced error in the second set of the match. In the second set also Marin dominated and won the set by 21-15. This was a good win for Marin as she took the revenge for the loss to PV SIndu in the Indian open Superseries.
On the other hand, Indian men’s badminton Superstar Sai Praneeth was up against the world no 7 World No. 11 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand. The fans were not hoping so much from him as everybody expected Sai to win the match. But, he came back from behind to win and move to the semifinal of te tournament.
Sai had never beaten the Thai in two previous meetings but he changed that stat. He lost the first set by 15-21 and then everyone thought that the match was over but Sai had other ideas. He took the second set by 21-14. He then took his form in the third set and won that by 21-19. This was the emphatic win for the Indian youngster. The way he played in the match was fabulous and really dominated the game throughout.
This is for the first time that Sai Praneeth has reached the last-four stage at any Superseries tournament. Now, he will take on the winner of the quarter-final contest between Jonatan Christie and Lee Dong Keun.
