Australian Open 2017 Predictions: Who Will Win Men’s & Women’s Singles

The first grand slam of the year, Australian Open 2017 is finally here. We all had been eagerly waiting for this extravaganza of the high quality of tennis to begin. So, what does this spectacle behold for us? First thing that comes to mind is the unpredictable and unexpected results that we can expect. So here is our Australian Open 2017 predictions for Men’s & Women’s singles.

The past editions have shown that however great you are or how much are you a favourite to win the championship, one blip, one miss and you are gone. Ask Serena how she lost the championship last year or ask Nadal how Verdasco tamed him. It was just an off day and they were gone. That’s what fascinating about Australian Open, the high temperatures drain energy very quickly out of you and it is only the fittest who wins. The fact is exemplified by Novak winning the championship a record 6 times.

Australian Open 2017 Predictions

2017 Australian Open is going to enthralling, say the least. With all the top players fit and raring to go, it could well be a fight to watch out for.Novak’s form slipped last year and that led to him losing his world number one ranking to Murray.

But Novak Djokovic looked his imperious best when he dismantled Murray in the finals of Qatar Open held recently. Novak always gets his best form back for his favourite grand slam.Despite him seeded second and also a trick opener against Verdasco, he would remain the favourite to defend his title here in Melbourne.

Sir Andy Murray is in the best form of his life. He has looked confident and more importantly calm, that’s what having a baby can do to you.Ranked number 1, it’s his grand slam to loose. Whether he breaks the jinx of Australian Open remains to be seen, he has already lost 5 times in the finals of Australian Open.

Then there are Nadal and Federer, both past there prime. Having slipped in rankings to 9th and 17th respectively, these champions have very tricky draws .With age and fitness both not on their side, it would only be a miracle if they reach the finals.

Stan Wawrinka, the most underrated champion, leads the outside pack of players, who have an outside chance to make it big.The big serving Canadian Milos Raonic also has a realistic chance to upset the Big Four. The young guns that includes home brats Nick Kyrigos and Bernard Tomic and German boy Alex Zverev have a chance to shine on the big stage but don’t expect them to make any serious damage.

But do expect animated stuff from these teenagers especially Kyrigos. And as far as Dimitrov is concerned, Baby Federer still has a long way to go before finally claiming  stake for the championships.

For the women draw there is not much great depth. Most players are not consistent enough to challenge Serena and with Sharapova out till April the women draw even lacks appeal. Expect Serena to run riot and dismantle the opposition players in the opening rounds.Kerber and Muguruza, last year French Open Champion do pose a threat but even they are no match for Serena’s power game.

Australian Open 2017 Predictions

So, my pick for the Australian Open 2017 will be Dokovic vs Murray final and 5 sets with Dokovic winning the final set on tiebreak. For women nothing is expected other than the fact that if Serena plays even at 50% of her best game, she will destroy all her opponents.
