It is the last two Quarter-finals of the Miami Open 2017 and the marquee match of the day features the No. 4 seed Roger Federer and the No.10 seed Tomas Berdych. The quarterfinals of the competition will take place on Thursday, March 30. Roger Federer vs Tomas Berdych Miami Open 2017 quarterfinals is scheduled for 3pm local time.
The Swiss maestro is looking like his vintage best as he leads their head to head 17-6 and looks to extend his six-match winning streak against the big Czech, who last defeated the Swiss superstar in the semi-finals of 2013 Dubai. During the streak, Federer has won the last 14 sets.
Federer comes into the match on an eight-match winning streak and has not lost a set since his last loss, that came in Dubai against Russian qualifier Evgeny Donskoy, a few weeks ago. Berdych came into this tournament on the back of some poor results at Indian Wells and in Dubai but the former world No. 4 has steadied the ship and looks to be growing in confidence.
The last time these two met was in the Round of 32 of the Australian Open this year where Federer dominated the proceedings from the first hit off the racquet, downing the Czech with an easy 6-2 6-4 6-4 victory.
But in their previous meeting at the Miami Open, Berdych prevailed with a 6-4 6-7 7-6 victory and went on to reach the final (l. to Roddick) in the 2010 edition of the tournament.
“Ya, I think it should be a good match, the Australian Open match against Berdych was sort of the beginning for me to show me that I was actually doing better than I thought I was. It was a night session match in Australia and I think it will be a day session match here in Miami, so conditions are going to be very different and I am sure that Ivanisevic, the coach is going to help Tomas to come up with some sort of a different or new tactic against me because of what happened in Australia didn’t work,” said Federer when asked about Berdych.
“From my side I hope I can play again an aggressive, good match and him as well because that’s who he is, an aggressive baseliner with a lot of power and yes, I have lost to him in some big matches in the past, but let’s put those aside and think only about the Australian Open and about this one right now, ” he further added.
But can Berdych turn the tables around this time? I don’t think so, as Federer looks to dial back the years with his ever so consistent serve and a resurgent backhand with the help of his coach Ivan Ljubicic and Tomas never looks comfortable with Federer’s fast pace game.
