Wimbledon Prize Money 2017 (Single Winners to Pocket £2.2m Each)

Wimbledon Prize Money 2017: The singles tennis champions at Wimbledon 2017 championship will receive £2.2million (USD 2.8 million) each in prize money. The respective prizes for the Wimbledon men’s and women’s winner will rise by £200,000. The All England Lawn Tennis Club, the host of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament has announced total prize pot of £31.6 million ($40.8 million ) which is 12.5 per cent increase in total prize money fund compared to last year £28.1million.

In addition, it also reported that the first-round singles losers will pocket £35,000 at the Wimbledon Open 2017. The hike in the prize money of Wimbledon 2017 are due to the value of the pound dropped following the Brexit vote.

Andy Murray and Serena Williams was the winner of men’s and women’s singles respectively. The current champions of the tournament has won £2million at Wimbledon 2016. American tennis star Serena Williams will not participate in this year’s edition as she is pregnant.

In 2016, Wimbledon has raised the prize money were winners got £2million in the men’s and women’s singles draws. This is the 5th consecutive year where Wimbledon prize money has been increased. The largest portion of the Wimbledon prize money pool are paid to men’s and women’s singles event while rest is distributed among players from qualifyers to winners in Singles/doubles/mixed doubles.
